E Bikes Continue to Grow in the EU

Sales of e bikes continue to grow strongly in the European Union in past two years.

The European Bicycle Industry Association (CONEBI) released an overview of the European Union bicycle industry in past two years.

According to CONEBI data, the total sales, production and imports of bicycles in the European Union declined in the past two years. Although sales of bicycles in the European Union are at their lowest level in nearly a decade, e-bike sales are growing rapidly. Sales of e bikes continue to grow strongly in the European Union. According to CONEBI, the European Union sold 1,667,000 electric bicycles in one year. Up 22.15% from 1,364,000 in last year.

Imports of electric bicycles across Europe (HS code: 87119010) surged 60%, according to Eurostat. The biggest exporter of e bikes to the EU was China, with 78 per cent. Vietnam was the second largest exporter, with 91,468 vehicles. EU imports from Taiwan and Switzerland soared by 83% and 111% respectively.
